M.E.J.

My father , Michael Jungwirth, passed away 13 years ago at the age of 39 from AMN. It's unbelievable to think that I've lived more than half of my life without him. I was only 10 years old when my father passed away and in no way could I have prepared myself for how it would affect my life. Sometimes it's hard to distinguish which memories I actually remember of him and which ones I've made up throughout the years in attempts to never forget him. What I do know for sure is that I never saw him show signs of weakness. He put on a brave face for his kids and I can't thank him enough. He dealt with the disease by making others around him laugh; he was an entertainer. He was a musician and in his last years he recorded songs for the United Leukodystrophy Foundation in hopes of raising research money. Even though he knew his life was soon ending, he managed to give whatever he could to those he had to leave behind. I look forward to remembering more of him every day. I miss you, as well as two of my cousins who passed away from ALD, Justin and Christopher. You Are Not Alone.

David you passed away when I was four years old in my arms. Times I wonder what you would be like today. Your brother has it now and it hurts me your mom did the same thing to him.
