12 yr old

My cousin is 12 yrs. old and was diagnosed with ALD 2 weeks ago. He got his blood work results back today...they said that the stages were 1-40 and he is at stage 35. He is going to be flown to Maryland either today or tomorrow. It makes me so mad that my aunt has been taking him to the doctors for years and they kept telling her that nothing was wrong. She could have been living every moment to the fullest with him instead of that precious time just slipping away from them.

I am so sorry about your cousin. It is something that doctors do not pick up on and the results are disastrous. We lost my oldest son in 04 age 10 because of that very fact. The doctor completely missed that he had ALD 8 months earlier and that time could of made all the difference for a transplant. Bless you and your family. smithrus5@wcrtc.net if you want to email.

  Re: 12 yr old

Unfortunately your story is not uncommon. I was told for two years that my son would grow out of turned out to be ALD. If I had not finally demanded that a team of specialist examine every aspect of his organs my son who is now 17 years out from transplant would have been dead. The one thing I would say to anyone with a kid who is always getting sick, make demands on your docs, and if you don't like what you are hearing keep looking for a doc who will continue to look for what is causing the problem.
